Happy Martin Luther King day!
Whether you are off for the holiday or back to the grind, I hope your Monday is off to a good start and I hope you had an AH-MAZING weekend!!
I can’t believe I haven’t posted since Friday. This weekend just escaped me and I promise I have missed you so.
Friday was a super busy workday. I had meetings downtown all day leaving me no time to eat a proper lunch so my eats looked a little something like this:
The weather in South Florida has been so wonderful the last two weeks. It has been especially cold the last few days so it was nice to use some of the
vacation winter clothing that never get used and just take space in the closet.
When I got home from work, I spent as much time as possible outside.
This meant, park time for baby cakes and my nephew. These two are obsessed with this playground.
My mom came up to see us Friday night (best surprise ever) and to seal the Best Mom of the Day Award, cooked all of us dinner :) My (aunt) mom’s big sister is here visiting from Iran and she brought us the most delicious cookies. Yummmooo.
My Saturday was centered all around organizing and house stuff. We had the handyman come help make the house pretty from the inside and had our house pressure cleaned so it could be pretty from the outside too.
I started my morning with a flax seed bagel from Wholefoods, topped with almond butter and bananas.
Once I was fueled up, I attacked most of the closets in the house including the pantry and my office closet. My office closet was simply my hide it spot. So it took forever to clean out the world’s biggest clutter box.
Once all the cleaning was done, I baked some bread while my mom made everyone dinner.
For dinner we had a sudo Persian dish. It was only sudo because I didn’t have the right type of rice. Instead of Basmati, my mom had to use regular long rain rice which is very different in texture. Regardless of the rice, this is one of my favorite dishes. Lubia Polo – aka, green bean rice. :)
I ended the night getting ready for my last longgg run before my Miami Half Marathon on February 2, 2014. I laid out everything I needed for my Sunday morning run. Lululemon sports bra, pants, tee and jacket, socks, spibelt, headphones, Cliff Gel Blocks, sunglasses, Garmin and Honey Stinger Honey Waffle.
Laying everything out helped so much because I know it was going to be cold and I needed to leave early.
Sunday morning I woke up to my alarm and saw that according to my iphone it was 36 degrees outside!!! I decided to sleep an extra hour in hopes that it would warm up by 7:00am. It was 38 degrees and I figured it was best to get my long run started sooner rather than later.
I headed out the door and was amazed at how windy and cold it was.
My goal was 12 miles. This was my last long run before the half and I really wanted to make it count. I don’t know why I have been such a lazy bear the last month but I wanted to make sure I finished the last two weeks of training with as little to no regret as possible.
My run was long. Like really really long. This run, in the freezing hurt your bones cold, made me realize that maybe long distance running in the cold isn’t my thing. I normally love my long runs but this run…not so much.
My Cliff gels fell out of my pocket so I quickly stopped and grabbed some Swedish fish :)
By the time I finished, I was so happy this cold run was o-v-e-r. To my friends in cold places, I don’t know how you run in the cold!
Tim and Baby Cakes were at my sister’s house when I finished so I headed over there for some family time and free food.
Breakfast burrito scramble and hot coffee.
The weather was so cold that I spent the rest of the morning trying to defrost my frozen bones.
We spent the rest of the day in Miami visiting my family. We all went to my uncle (mom’s little brother’s) house for kabobs and birthday cake in honor of my 3 year old cousin.
His mom made him a cute three-legged dinosaur cake and even brought a pinata.
My daughter was only
lazy kid who didn’t work hard to collect that candy.
Spending time with my family was the perfect way to end a super fun weekend. Check out the gorgeous sunset we caught on our way home.
Okay, wow this was the longest post…I am off today so I am so excited to spend the day with my favorite little girl. We have a busy day planned with hopes for a trip to Target and Wholefoods so I better get to it.
I hope you have a great day!!
How do you train two weeks before a race?
